ANACONDA PIT

The Anaconda Copper Corporation broke ground in 1950.  Through the years, it became the 3rd largest open pit mine in the world before the price of copper forced a closure in 1978.  From the point the above  picture was taken to the other end of the water is just over one mile.  The City of Yerington can bee seen in the background.  Very nice to take pictures of mason valley from.  Don't miss stopping at the look at point, located at Weed Heights, to view the entire valley.
