The Yerington Police Department is a small full service Law Enforcement department comprised of 7 sworn Personnel and one administrative person. Sworn personnel include the Chief, Lieutenant and five officers assigned to patrol.
The Chief of Police is the Chief Executive Officer for the Department. The Lieutenant is second in command. The Lieutenant acts as the first line supervisor for the patrol staff.
The department also has volunteer uniformed reserve officers, which is broken into two sections. Special Services Officers are those reserve officers who do not wish to become full time officers and assist the department in several different ways. All other reserve officers work directly with Sworn Personnel in performing all Law Enforcement functions. If these reserve officers work 16 hours or more per month, they receive a $50.00 uniform allowance. |

In order to qualify for a career or volunteer position, an individual must meet the following qualifications: |

* Must be 21 years of age at the time
of employment. |

The Testing process consists of the following: * A written examination that requires
the applicant to successfully pass the examination with an 70% or higher score.
|
|
Bonus points will be awarded as follows: * 5 points for current Category 1 Nevada
P.O.S.T. Certificate and 3 points for current out of state certificate.

If the applicant successfully completes all three phases of test he/she will be provided a background packet to complete. The applicant will be required to provide copies of the following documents: * Birth Certificate or Naturalization

The background process will consist
of a national criminal history check, driving
record check, contact with local law enforcement, interviews
with employers,
friends and relatives, landlords, creditors, and etc.
If the individual passes the
background investigation he/she will be placed on the hiring list. If
the individual
fails the background investigation he/she will be notified, in writing that
they failed. Currently the department starts
a P.O.S.T. certified Police Officer at $33,825.00 for the first year. The City
of Yerington
offers a full health insurance plan for employees in which the City pays
the employee's premiums in full and pays 32.0% to the Public Employees Retirement
System. Sworn personnel are provided a Uniform allowance of
